You’ve heard the expression, “Everything old is new again.”  That phrase is certainly validated by flare jeans and platform sandals.  Although this isn’t a weekend staple look for me, it sure is fun once in a while.  And for those of us of a certain age this pant silhouette feels a bit nostalgic.

The trick in carrying off flares is to keep from looking as though you’ve been frozen in the 70s.  I’m probably pushing it with the platform sandals.  I’ve seen flares worn with Converse Chucks, flat sandals and ankle boots, platform or otherwise.  I’ve chosen my sandals because my pants are so long and I wanted to keep the length.  You don’t need them, though.  In fact, you hardly see my shoes at all!

Back to avoiding a 70s reload: I would avoid fringe, suede and Boho prints.  Keep the color scheme simple – the flares are feature enough.  There are probably as many flare jeans styles as there are body types.  I’ve linked several options below with different fits and different price points.  I hope one of them speaks to you, but keep looking if they don’t.  And try different heel heights.  I’m wearing platforms but they’re not for everyone.  Try one of the other options I discussed above.  See if you don’t hit on a combo that allows you to add this fun variation on a jeans theme.

I don’t want to ignore this great Ann Taylor top, though.  The detail is so pretty, and at 60% off it’s a great buy!  The lovely blush hue is flattering for most skin colors and it’s perfect for warmer weather.

I appreciate you taking time out of your busy day to visit. Have a wonderful Monday!

  1. I love your style Helen☺, I am 5’9″ and love heels. As I age I wonder if I am a bit too old to be 6 feet!!! I would love to know what you think? Karen

    1. Thank you so much, Karen! I don’t think you’re too old for heels until you feel unstable in them. Even so, that’s less of an age issue and more one of gaining strength and stability again. Embrace you height, embrace your heels and strut your stuff – with elegance and style of course!
