Summer is coming to a close.  Yeah, try telling that to Southwest Arizona!  Temperatures are still in triple digits, although we have some relief from the 110+ numbers of the last couple of months.  So while transitional looks are making sense across most of the country I’m still embracing some bright summer colors – in this case, more yellow.  I say, “more” because didn’t I show these shoes earlier this week?  Guilty.  Oops.

Yellow is a tricky color – you have to find the right shade to make it work for you.  From bright yellow to mustard, neon to Old Gold, there are plenty of options from which to find a shade that works for you.  Generally, brighter yellow looks better with an end of summer tan, but this pale girl thought she’d give it a go anyway.  It proves the tan is not necessarily mandatory.  Good thing.  🙂

How do you find the shades of yellow most complimentary to your skin tone?  I think it’s as basic as standing in front of a mirror with different variations of yellow and putting them up to your face.  Pretty high tech, no? But seriously, how else would you really know which shades look best on you?

What happens if you find a style you love in color that’s not quite right?  You can carry it off if you choose a bold necklace that flatters you, and/or the right lip color.  Because my skin is so light, I need a little more lip color to keep from being washed out.  For fun I chose MAC Candy Yum, Yum to match my bag.  Add those green Ray Bans and my Ode to Summer Color is complete.

Are you over summer and ready for fall?  Take your cue from nature and go for gold or mustard – perfect fall colors.  Or wrap your brighter yellow in deep hues of plum or navy.  I guess yellow can be transitional after all.
