Although lately I’ve been having problems getting my scheduled posts to actually post, you are not looking at a summer post.  Yes, in the southwest this passes as a fall look.  🙂  If you want to mix it up a bit after so many days of fall color, how about classic navy and white with a smidgen of fall mustard yellow?  I’m revisiting this great Kiwi & Ellie scarf today.

After showing this beautiful scarf with mustard yellow here, I wanted to show how easily it can adapt to a navy and white combination.  It takes on a different personality with a different background.  We’ve talked about that a lot on this blog; mixing and matching items you already own in different combinations gives you so much more mileage from your wardrobe, and also keeps your creativity flowing.  If you continually go to your closet with the idea that today’s outfit is going to be a completely new combination of things you’ve already worn, not only will you have renewed appreciation for most everything in your closet, you’ll look as though that closet is never-ending.

To make my case, I’ve worn these Ann Taylor white jeans here, here, and here, just to name a few posts.  I’ve worn my navy tee here and here.  We’ve already discussed the scarf’s repeat performance.  My Christian Louboutin “So Kate” pumps are frequent flyers as well.  I don’t just do that for this blog – it’s part of my daily fashion philosophy.  There may be women who can afford to wear something new every day.  Even if I fell into that group (I don’t), there are so many places I’d rather put my hard-earned dollars. I’ll allocate some resources to clothes, because, well, I love clothes, but there are other investments I want to make as well.  I believe most women feel as I do, so I like to present those kinds of real-life options here.

How about you?  Are you good at mixing your separates?  I’d love to hear about it!

Helen
