Since starting this little blogging adventure I’ve had a lot of fun with style.  It’s been fun to do some edgy things, but sometimes I want to get back to basics.  Today’s look is exactly that – basic.

In honesty, almost everything I’m wearing I’ve had for a few years.  I’ve linked sweaters, shoes and a skirt I thought most closely match what I have on.  The beauty of that fact is the way it reinforces the concept: basic pieces transcend trends.  They last.  I don’t spend a lot on trendy pieces, but I will spend more for quality basics.  I know if they are properly cared for they will last for years and pay dividends in style.

A black wool skirt is probably the most basic and most important part of a winter wardrobe.  If you work in an office environment, you can style it very conservatively with a classic sweater or blouse.  You can add edge with a leather jacket or top.  It can be livened up with a bright print.  The options are as endless as your imagination.

Just as I’ve recently posted several different looks with a black sweater and pants, you can do the same, and even more, with a classic, black, pencil skirt.  How would you style it?
