What do you think about this season’s favorite fashion statement?  I’m speaking of ruffles, and I’m seeing them on everything.  It seems the darling fabric for this look is the blue and white pinstripe, but I like something a bit different just to be, well, different.  This bright orange number from Chico’s answers the call.  It reminds me a bit of those peasant tops we wore in the 70s.  Remember those?  Although it wasn’t specifcally designed to be worn off the shoulder, I really like it that way.  It added a touch of elegance and somehow reduced the fullness of the top, which suits my shorter body better.  Orange is such a great summer color as well – a bit more sophisticated than its cousin yellow, but every bit as suited to the season.

I’ve found cargo pants are a great casual option for summer.  They’re a nice alternative to shorts, and in this light stone color they go with just about every summer top.  This pair from Chico’s is very soft, with a relaxed, comfortable fit.  I’ve dressed them up a bit with the ruffled top, and I suppose they could be dressed up even more, as counterintuitive as that may seem.  Maybe I’ll give that a try just to see.  🙂  Whenever a piece in my closet can do double- (or triple-) duty , I find it even more appealing.  It’s also an opportunity to be a bit more creative.

I’ve been talking a lot about Chico’s lately.  They’ve been wonderful to our Fierce 50 Revolution and they have some truly beautiful pieces in store.  They are also having an excellent sale in stores and online, featuring discounts up to 70%!  The sale is definitely worth checking out!

Side note:  check out my Instagram feed for a remarkable face trio from Tula.  They’re on sale today on QVC for the amazing price of $52!  Thsi is a 24-hour sale so be sure to check it out before it’s over! You can use link to see it.

I hope you have a fabulous Monday.  Thanks so much for reading!

Dressed Up Jeans and a Tee

What can be more basic than jeans and a tee? True, I’ve given them a little twist with a cropped length jean and a slub-fabric tee, but the foundation is still there.  Then I made a fabulous little discovery for this basic look: add a long statement necklace and basic gets dressed up in an instant.  This particular necklace from Chico’s is on sale right now, as well as the cropped jeans, which makes the look even more appealing.

If you’re not a fan of platform wedges or crops, try the look with loafers or flat mules and jeans at ankle-length. I’ve added a few to the widget below to give you some ideas, including a light-weight denim ankle jean to see you through the hotter summer months.  I have enough jeans in longer lengths right now (did I really type that?) which is why I chose the crops.  They looked more like summer to me, and goodness knows it’s summer in Arizona!

I’m still basking in the glow of last weekend’s Fierce 50 Revolution meet up.  I featured a couple pictures of our beach photo shoot and the brunch at Chico’s in Santa Monica earlier this week.  Next week I’ll have more from the beach shoot (so much fun with those wonderful women), our Launch Party for Cat & Kaehler and their new LA Talk Radio show, and another brunch at the chic shop of French Kande.  We had such a fun weekend – I can’t wait for the next get together.

Meanwhile, join the Revolution on Facebook.  If you’re 50+, you’ll find plenty of inspiration and style for our demographic.  We would love to have you in the conversation!

How cute are these cupcakes? Chico’s had them made just for us. If you’ve looked inside a Chico’s shopping bag, you’ll see the cupcakes are an homage to their leopard signature print which lines each bag. Shopping, friends, sale prices and leopard print – truly a fashion blogger’s paradise!

Jodie from Jodie’s Touch of Style and husband Rob share a sweet indulgence.  Jodie keeps us together and in touch with group emails and up-to-date information about The Revolution.  Rob was such a sweetie, stepping in to photograph me for Tuesday’s post since Andy couldn’t join me.  Thank you Rob, so very much!

This weekend members of The Fierce 50 Revolution got together for fun event after fun event. Many of us had been online friends for months, if not years. This was our first opportunity to meet face-to-face and did we make the most of it! We wrapped up the weekend with a shopping brunch at Chico’s, Santa Monica. What a pretty and delicious spread they set out for us!

At the beginning of The Fierce 50 Movement, Chico’s sent these pretty powerbead bracelets to each member. This weekend, we also received their Just Beachy totes and adorable Fun in the Sun hats. My daughter hijacked mine for an upcoming trip to the Carribean. I hope she’s planning to give them back. 🙂 Thank you, Chico’s, for the wonderful gifts and a fantastic Sunday morning.

I’ve got more in store about this great weekend.  Stay tuned for upcoming posts.  If you’re interesteed in becoming a member of The Fierce 50 Revolution, check us out on Facebook and join the party.  This inclusive group of supportive women would love to welcome you!

Thank you so much for visiting today!

Isn’t it ironic the way your office can be cold in the summer and warm in the winter?  I’ve always preferred a colder room but every once in a while even I can get a little chilly.  So even in the furnace blast that is our southwest summer, an office look that includes this 3/4-sleeve top can work.  For those of you scratching your heads at my crazy talk, I’ve linked a short-sleeve top in the same cool cucumber color.  Your entire purchase on the Chico’s website is 40% off today!

Speaking of sales, if you need a little more incentive to check our the Nordstrom Anniversary Early Access sale, Nordstrom is offering double points.  Earning points gives you Nordstrom Notes you can use to buy more of the things you love!

This week it’s about the shoes.  I’m finding so many different ways to style my new favorite pair of shoes and this bright pink bag. We’ve all been there though – you buy a pair of shoes and then have to buy the outfit to go with them.  Ha ha!  The great news?  A lot of these things are on sale!

That’s exactly what I did this week.  I’ve really been into the bright pinks so far this spring.  Today I took a spring/summer basic look, white jeans and a royal blue top, and gave it a little punch with the shoes and bag.  It’s still a really easy look – I didn’t even bother with accessories, and I really didn’t miss them.

I’m off to work.  I hope you all have a wonderful weekend.  Happy Friday!

I’m always looking for something different.  I like basics, but I also like things that have that little something extra.  This cut out skirt is just the kind of thing I’m talking about.  The open fabric and the pretty cream color will make this a spring-through-summer staple. The stretch waist band is forgiving if you have a bit of a thick waist like me.  Even though my legs are a little longer than average, this skirt is pretty long so I’ve linked the petite version.  I would go with that unless you’re pretty tall.  If I had to do it over again, I’d order the petite.

This is the first year in a while we haven’t had our annual family Easter brunch and egg hunt.  It’s one of my favorite family events, especially seeing the little ones running around the yard looking for eggs, and watching them have so much fun together.  It was a tough call, but I just couldn’t swing it this year.  Between the early heat wave, three large dogs and a busy tax season, it just wasn’t happening.  I really hope to get back on track next year.

I know Easter isn’t supposed to be about eggs, bunnies and candy.  I just love having family around.  The true reason for this season is the most blessed event in the Christian world – the resurrection of our Savior.  The day Christ conquered death for us all.  I can’t imagine the pain and suffering He went through or the abandonment He must have felt as He took on all the sins of the world.  Because of His pain and sacrifice, we have everlasting life.  I don’t deserve it, but I couldn’t be more thankful.

Easter means different things for different people.  How are you spending your Easter weekend?

Happy Monday!

I’m trying to reserve Mondays for a Money Monday financial post but to be honest, I just wasn’t feeling it this week.  My husband Andy and I got back from Kauai about 3am Wednesday (more on the trip soon!) and I was back in the office later that day doing tax planning for clients.  I think I finally caught up on sleep this weekend.

Today I wanted to show a casual look with a little more polish than jeans.  This leopard print shirt is very versatile.  I’ve styled it here with leggings but it can also be worn with a skirt or fitted black pants to the office.

I love the black boots in this season’s popular over-the-knee style. With the flat heel you could walk in these for hours – perfect if you still need to hit the stores to finish your Christmas shopping.  I wore them to our office party Friday night and they were perfect.

Thanks for stopping by!
