When everything around you is feeling a bit hectic, it’s nice to have something simple as a touchstone. What I mean is, sometimes it’s almost a relief to go to the basics. It seemed as though this weekend was the first I’d spent at home in a while. We had planned to attend a fun event Saturday night but it was outdoors, the winds were really whipping and Andy has allergies so we opted to skip. It was actually so nice to hang out at home with a good bottle of wine and just relax.
We did spend a lot of time building ( the neverending story) so I didn’t get out to stores to see what’s new. The result? Shopping my closet and finding that on weekends like these K.I.S.S. works best. Keep it Simple Sweetheart. What’s more simple than white jeans and a denim shirt?
I’ve also added an item from my first foray in into the block heel jungle: these simple yet versatile beige suede sandals. I wasn’t sure about suede vs. smooth leather but the price was right (under $50) so I thought I’d give it a go. I found mine on Amazon and then discovered a really pretty blush color here which I like even better. Live and learn.
Our current building project is still the front courtyard. Almost everything is finished. In fact, we’ve been doing a little entertaining out there. We get the fountains going and it’s the most peaceful place to sit and chat. Or just be. We are still working on a built-in bench we’re incorporating into a large pergola (aka “The Gazebo”). Andy is engineering the bench (he’s actually designed the entire structure) and it’s taking quite a bit of thought. I told him what I envisioned (I want it to appear to be floating) but it also needs to support about 1,000 pounds and it’s all made of redwood. Oh, and we don’t want any hardware to show. Simple? Yeah, not so much. But the weekend was productive and I’m starting the week feeling as though we’re making progress. That always makes me happy.

I forgot about this outfit. I’m so sorry – I waited a bit too long and the tank has only limited sizing available. I linked a couple of very similar options above. On the bright side, most of what I’m wearing is on sale today!
I love the way the blush tones in this scarf soften the bright pink tank. If you want the brighter color contrast you can always remove the scarf. Just another one of the seemingly endless ways to style white jeans.
How do you style your white jeans?

I’m really enjoying the bright colors of spring and summer. I picked up this versatile pink top and this cute little hat a week or so ago and I’m already getting a lot of use from them. Pink has been at the forefront for me this season and this top, even though it has some structure, feels light and feminine. When the temps really heat up I’ll be shedding pants in favor of skirts and shorts. Until then, these white Ann Taylor jeans are my closet workhorse.

There are so many ways to style white pants, aren’t there? They are so easy to dress up or down, and of course they go with every color. For a casual barbecue or an afternoon of running errands I wanted something that didn’t look like I tried too hard – because I didn’t. Just basic white and denim with a couple little shots of gold for interest.
I like these Ann Taylor jeans because they’re pretty light-weight without being sheer. There’s a fine line there and these jeans have found it. I’m sure I’ll get plenty of use out of them this spring and summer. Have you picked up a pair of white jeans yet?

Happy Monday! I hope you had a great weekend. We sure did. I’ll share a few pictures later this week of our fun little day trip to San Diego.
Today I wanted to show how my office pinstripe shirt (see last week’s Pinstripes) does double-duty as a more casual piece. I’m sure you’ve done the same with things in your closet. The black and white are classic, of course, and a fun pop of color makes all the difference. I’ve been wearing so much pink lately (hello, Spring!) I thought a hit of red would be a nice change. Just about any bright color would create the same effect.
Pieces that span the work-to-weekend bridge are great wardrobe and budget stretchers. What pieces in your closet do double duty?
I hope you’re having a great start to your week. Thank you for stopping by. It means so much!

This week it’s about the shoes. I’m finding so many different ways to style my new favorite pair of shoes and this bright pink bag. We’ve all been there though – you buy a pair of shoes and then have to buy the outfit to go with them. Ha ha! The great news? A lot of these things are on sale!
That’s exactly what I did this week. I’ve really been into the bright pinks so far this spring. Today I took a spring/summer basic look, white jeans and a royal blue top, and gave it a little punch with the shoes and bag. It’s still a really easy look – I didn’t even bother with accessories, and I really didn’t miss them.
I’m off to work. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend. Happy Friday!

I’ve been spending so much time in the office lately it’s hard to think about casual clothes. Clearly evident here, where I used too much of a good thing, namely, Accessories. The black hat and the brown bag aren’t the best combo – a little fact I didn’t notice until I looked at the photos later. Oh well. Picture the outfit with one or the other and it’ll be fine. 🙂
That said, I love these light-weight white jeans by Ann Taylor. They have just enough stretch in the fabric for comfort, and they’re lightweight enough for our warm southwest weather. I’m seeing a lot of coral this spring, and this top fits the bill perfectly. And if you’re going to be in the grass, nothing finishes a casual look like a pair of TOMS. I love these floral ones from last year. The new patterns above still carry plenty of coral to work with the top.
What’s your go-to casual look?
Thanks so much for visiting!

Happy Spring everyone! It’s officially the first day of Spring, but you’d think it was summer looking at our weather lately. 90+ degrees. Are you kidding me???
The bummer about my long tax-season hours is not the work load – I knew what I was getting into – but the time of the year the workload hits. The months of January – March are gorgeous in the southwest. Crisp, cool mornings give way to wonderfully warm afternoons and breezy, balmy evenings. It’s much too beautiful to waste it all behind a desk! Alas. . .
I found this gorgeous statement necklace and thought it’d be so great with all white. And what better way to cleanse the palate of winter’s dark colors than with something so clean and fresh? A few pops of color helped keep me from feeling like Bride of Mr. Clean. And these Ann Taylor lightweight jeans are so comfortable, they’ll easily see you through summer.
How are celebrating the first day of Spring?

Happy St. Patrick’s Day everyone! I thought I’d celebrate a day early with some Wearin’ o’ the Green. I have a little Irish in me (doesn’t everyone on this day?) but I can’t roll my Rs to save my life. Believe me, I’ve tried! Does anyone have any tips?
Although I’ve had the traditional corned beef and cabbage, I’ve never gone in for green beer. Have you?
Whether an Irish dinner or an Irish Pub is in your plans, have a great day and remember to celebrate responsibly!
