As my friends and I have gotten older, I’ve noticed more of them are having less fun. What a tragedy! At a time in our lives more of us care a lot less about how others perceive us, why aren’t we acting like it? Where is that footloose and fancy-free attitude?
Getting older does not mean giving up fun. On the contrary, with so many serious issues going on in the world, we can all use a lot more fun. You’ve heard it said, “Laughter is the best medicine.” Honestly, don’t you feel better after a good belly laugh? When was the last time you laughed so hard your abs hurt the next day? Talk about better than the gym! I love times like that. We need more times like that!
I wonder if many of us lament paradise lost? Yes, I remember being young and having my whole life ahead of me. To be honest, given the chance 57-year-old me would have a long sit-down with 17-year-old me and make some major changes. But you know what? That’s not going to happen. This is where I am at 57, and although I’m 40 years down the road, I still have a lot of life ahead of me! The limitless options I had as a 17-year-old may have diminished, but I can still make changes every day to make my next day better. So can you!
When was the last time you had fun? I’m talking reckless-abandon-belly-laugh-jump-up-and-down fun? If it wasn’t today, why wasn’t it? I’m finding fun and enjoying it everywhere I can. I hope you are, too!
