Like the saying goes, “when life hands you lemons, make lemonade.” Or maybe a glass of champagne with a little fresh-squeezed lemon juice. 🙂  And these cute shoes.

About the time I got this great striped linen J.Jill shirt, my daughters gave me these adorable Soludos shoes.  I just had to put them together!  My J.Jill ankle pants were last seen here, and were perfect with the shoes.  All I needed was a yellow tee, which I found in my closet.  Voila!

Why does this work?  Well, blue and white make a classic summer combination.  You can add just about any accent color to that pairing.  With my lemon shoes, the accent color was pretty evident.  Had I received this flamingo pair, not only would I have gone with a pink tee or tank, I could have chosen just about any shade of pink known!

And that’s the brilliance of this shirt/pant combo: I can accent with just about any color.  With so many casual shoe options, I can repeat my accent color at my feet to create a cohesive look.  When your accent color shoes up in more than one place you look more pulled together.  Be careful not to overdo the number of times you repeat your accent so you don’t look over done.  As a friend of mine once said, “If everything’s an accent, nothing’s an accent.”
